Last year I had the opportunity to review a World Vision product, and our experience led us to sponsor a boy who shares the same birth date and year as Bookworm. Eventually, when our finances are more stable, we plan to also sponsor a child for each of our daughters.
Sponsoring a child my son’s age has been eye opening for him. He’s much more aware of how much he has (even though he used to complain that he didn’t have much compared to other kids his age in the United States), and I see that he is more grateful, which is often a difficult quality to instill in a nine year old.
While sponsorship is always an option, it is also a financial commitment. You may instead choose to give a one time donation. An excellent way to do that is to buy a gift from World Vision.
Why? Because each gift that you buy includes a donation to World Vision.
For instance, the Christmas Ornament Set: Animal Tri0 is sold for $150. The fair market value of the set is $30. The additional $120 goes to World Vision as a donation. This is the perfect way to give a gift to someone as well as make a one-time donation. (Rest assured, there are many other gifts that are not as pricey as this one if it is outside of your price range.)
The craftsmanship on this set is exquisite. The animals are handmade Zakale wire & bead from Narobi. They are made using recycled materials. They are sure to add sparkle to any Christmas tree, though I prefer to set them on a shelf to admire.
If you’d like to learn more about how the World Vision gift program works, check out this short YouTube video:
Remember, if you’d like to place an order through World Vision, you must due so by December 16th to ensure your gift will arrive on time. Gifts are tax deductible donations.

I’d like to win this for my family’s Christmas tree. These ornaments remind me of some of the local artisan work I saw when I traveled to Namibia, Africa back in 2006. The beading and metalwork is incredible and I’d love for these ornaments to be a conversation piece with my children so I can teach them about where they came from and why it is important to learn about other countries and their cultures!
