My son is particiating in a Children Around the World project at school, so my husband thought it would be fun to make him some lunches from around the world. Yesterday he made a Japanese lunch with onigiri, sausage octopi, Japanese rice crackers and peanuts and apples (my husband said they were supposed to look like rabbits, but I don’t see it :)).
My son is used to this type of food, so he ate it all up. He was worried the kids would make fun of his “different” lunch, but when he told them it was a lunch around the world, they thought it was pretty neat.

This lunch is very cute! I am Japanese, and those apple slices look like rabbits to me. Well, now I think about it, not really…. We think the peels look like bunny ears. I made onigiri for my boys’ lunch once. Their classmates didn’t make fun of them. What’s in your onigiri, I wonder.
I don’t know that my son’s friends would make fun of him. He is just worried about it. He wants to pack exactly the same thing everyone else packs. (He wasn’t like this when he went to Japanese school, even though more than half of the kids weren’t Japanese.)
