We’re still not settled enough to have a regular routine, but slowly we’re getting there. After this upcoming week, I’m hoping life will feel more like normal, especially since we’ll start a full load of homeschooling again beginning on September 22nd. (We’ve been on a light summer load since June doing math, reading, and history only.)

This Week’s Goals
Financial
- Sit down with my husband to create a budget and discuss our finances.
- Talk to our financial advisor about a money market account.
- Arrange for automatic deposit for our various savings goals.
Personal
- Attend a gardening class.
- Create a space for our fall garden and begin planting seeds. (I hope this will get accomplished this week, but my husband hurt his back recently thanks to putting together our daughters’ new beds, so this project will depend on how his back is doing.)
- Finish my freezer cooking session.
- Get an AZ license.
- Find our car title or order one if I can’t find it. (I really hope I find it because ordering a new one costs $100!)
- Put labels on my daughter’s shelves so they know which clothes go where when they put them away.
- Do 5 days of homeschooling with Bookworm and the girls.
- Read at least 3 books to the girls or a few chapters of our Little House on the Prairie book a day.

- Decide on a regular publishing schedule for Mom’s Plans.
Do you make weekly goals? If so, what are yours?
I shared this post at Money Saving Mom.

Melissa, I read a post you wrote called “Why You Should Not Charge Adult Children Rent.” I was appalled at your sense of entitlement. That you believe your mom should have maybe put away the $6000 you paid her over the 2.5 years she allowed you to live in HER home so that she could give it back to you towards YOUR graduate degree, is pathetic and laughable. Your mom doesn’t OWE you a college education on any level. I was so disappointed in this victim/moocher mentality that you are perpetuating. Ugh, you have just motivated me to get my adult “boomerang” son out of my home as soon as possible. Thanks for the inspiration. I hope the article was purely you playing devil’s advocate because if not, you are a major reason why our country stays mired in the cesspool of failure.
I’m not sure what article you’re referring to since I write on many blogs, but I assume you’re referring to this one:
http://freefrombroke.com/should-you-charge-your-boomerang-kids-rent/
If you read the article carefully, you’ll see that I clearly state, “I happily paid my rent because I knew what she was charging me was much less than I would have to pay living on my own. What I paid her probably just covered my portion of food and utilities for the month.” Later, I also wrote, “As you may guess from my own background, I do believe in charging grown children who are living at home rent.”
However, for some parents who are uncomfortable paying rent, an alternative is to charge a minimal amount and set it aside for the child when he/she is ready to move out on their own.
I want to create a Freezer Cooking Session, but I just feel so tired at the end of the day. I think I might designate a day when my fiance is home to watch our children so I can really get some stuff accomplished.
Maybe I will get the kids involved to help me too 🙂 Great goals for this week! Good luck.
Good idea! When my kids were little, I couldn’t ever do a freezer cooking session unless my husband could watch them while I was cooking. Good luck!
