My grandparents ate a lot of fermented food such as sauerkraut. However, we Americans now eat a diet low in fermented foods and high in processed and sugary foods. The result can be a gastrointestinal crash and conditions such as leaky gut. Combined with a healthier diet, probiotics can help create good gut flora, which aids in digestion. We had the recent pleasure of reviewing Wakunaga of America Kyo-Dophilus Kids Probiotic, and we got to try both the kids probiotic as well as an adult probiotic.
Probiotics, if you’re not already using them, are recommended for good gut health. In addition, they may be able to help you fight off colds and the flu, which is always a bonus!
What We Received
We received two different probiotic products.
The first one we received was Wakunaga of America Kyo-Dophilus Kids Probiotic. There are 60 tablets in the bottle, and children over 4 should take one tablet a day with their meal. (Children under 4 and infants can take a half tablet crushed and mixed in food or juice.)
The probiotic contains 1 billion live cells with a proprietary blend of L.gasseri (to support GI function and immune health), B.bifidum (may help regulate gut flora and reduce inflammation), and B.longum (to normalize bowel movements.)
It has a pleasant vanilla taste, and when you bite into it, you can feel it dissolve into a fine powder immediately. My girls liked the taste, which always makes it easier to have them take their probiotic.
The Multi-9 Probiotic is a capsule for adults. There are 90 in the bottle, and adults should take two capsules once daily with a meal.
For someone like me who has many food intolerances, or for others with allergies, know that this probiotic is free of GMOs, soy, gluten, dairy, sodium, preservatives, artificial colors, and flavors.
Multi-9 Probiotic contains 6 billion live cells including 9 different strains–three Lactobacillus strains and six Bifidobacterium strains.
Our Experience Using the Probiotics
I tried the adult one, and I appreciated that it was fairly small. I just took it every night with my dinner. Since it was so small, it was easy to swallow. In the past, I’ve tried other probiotics and found that they upset my stomach, but this one did not.
The girls tried the kids’ probiotic and liked the vanilla flavor. I’ve had Cuddle Bug on a probiotic every day since February because literally, this past fall and winter, she was sick every other week. Since I’ve put her on the probiotic, she’s only had small colds. I don’t know if it is just a coincidence or not, but I’m happy to see her avoid most sicknesses since she started taking a probiotic.
If you’d like to try Wakunaga of America Kyo-Dophilus Kids Probiotic, they retail for $16 for 60 count bottle. You can find them at retailers such as Amazon, Sprouts, Natural Grocers, and Swansons Vitamins.
