While our 1/2 side of beef usually lasts us 12 to 15 months, now that I’m on the Paleo diet, we went through the 1/2 side of beef we bought last November much more quickly. We did still have some left, but we decided to buy one more from my cousin’s husband because it will be very hard to transport the meat several hours to our home during the heat of the summer.
So, here’s what we got this time around:
97 pounds of beef for $496 = $5.11 per pound
The cows are almost entirely grass fed, and though my cousin’s husband is not officially certified organic, he follows organic practices.
Here are the cuts we received:
8 Beef Round Tenderized
4 Beef Chuck Roast
2 Beef Porterhouse Steaks (comes 2 to a package and we got 2 packages)
3 Beef Rib Eye Steaks
4 Beef Sirloin Steaks
4 Beef Sizzlers
2 Beef T-bone Steaks
49 lbs. ground beef
This should last us through December when we can get another 1/2 side from him and will have freezing temperatures for transporting the meat.

Nice! $5.11/pound is a great deal.
Wow, that’s a lot of beef and a great price! 🙂 We’ve been thinking about splitting a cow with friends but it sounds like we’ll need the deep freeze to be nearly empty before hand, lol.
Our 1/2 side of beef takes about 1/2 the space in our deep freezer.
