This week I earned $87.50 from virtual assistant work and staff writing.
I also called Comcast, our cable/Internet provider to downgrade our service. We were paying $81.59 per month for economy cable and high speed Internet. I downgraded to economy Internet and lowered our bill by $16.05 per month to $65.54. The nice thing is that this isn’t a promotional special, so the bill will stay at this price until Comcast raises their rates again. I could downgrade to the absolute minimum cable which is basically the three big networks and PBS, but since it will only save $8 a month, I am reluctant to do so. I don’t watch much TV, but I am addicted to Deadliest Catch, and my son sometimes likes to watch the History Channel, so it is staying for now.
I now have $769.22 saved for August expenses.

Great job on the savings!
Awesome progress!
Before I married my husband and moved into his house 2 years ago, he didn’t have cable or internet. He didn’t see the need. He watched what he could pick up with the antenna, and used the internet at work.
When I moved in, I required internet, and the TV was about to make the “big switch” to all digital, so we signed up for the most basic cable package. ABC, CBS, NBC, CW, and PBS. And a few shopping channels, CSPAN, and the small locally produced channel.
I’d recently moved out of my parent’s house, where I’d had 80-some channels since I was born. To tell the truth, I only missed the cable on the weekends, when nothing is on.
My parents got us a Wii for Christmas last year, and in April, we signed up for Netflix. Love it! It has replaced our need for cable. We can watch some of the shows from Discovery, TLC, History, etc. Whenver we want. Without having to pay for cable, or for DVR or anything like that. Couldn’t recommend it enough!
Thanks for the recommendation. I should look into Netflix. I need to try to see what we can get with an antenna. Then maybe we can cut cable completely.
Nice savings!
Look at what you’re paying to rent your modem through Comcast. It’s probably about $7. You can buy the same modem on Amazon for $50 – a 1 time expense that will pay for itself in about 8 months.
That is a great tip! Thanks.
