This post contains affiliate links. Last year, I joined some Facebook book review groups. The members in these books constantly offer up book suggestions for books outside my usual preferred genre of WWII books. One that came highly recommended was The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell.
About The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell
Tallulah is a 19-year-old mother to a one-year old, Noah. The baby’s father, Zach, left her when she was pregnant but had a change of heart and moves in with her and the baby, who are both living with Tallulah’s mom, Kim. Kim loves the match and is happy for her daughter. When Zach asks Kim if she can watch Noah while he takes Tallulah for a much-needed night on the town, Kim is happy to do so. However, Zach and Tallulah never return.
A year later, Sophie, a detective fiction writer, moves to the same town with her boyfriend who has become a head teacher at the local boarding school. When Sophie sees a sign marked, “dig here” in her backyard, she can’t resist. She finds a ring and is soon deep into the case of Zach and Tallulah. Her interest is just what is needed to help the stalled investigation pick up again.
My Thoughts on the Book
This is a whodunit that will leave you guess what happened to the young couple. About halfway through the book I guessed at the general premise of what happened, but I only got half of it right. By the end of the book, I still had a few surprises.
While I wouldn’t say this is one of the best books I’ve read in this genre, it was an enjoyable read that kept me engaged and wanting to read more.
I give The Night She Disappeared 4 out of 5 stars on the Mom’s Plans’ scale.
