The Crew is doing another round of Blogging Through the Alphabet, and I decided to join this time (and hopefully get all the way through the alphabet unlike other times I’ve joined!), and this round, I’ll have a special focus: Learning Differences.

Why Learning Differences?

A few years ago, I thought I was the mom to three “normal,” albeit a bit quirky, kids.  We had challenges with our kids, but all parents do.  But since December, 2016 when we got an official diagnosis of autism for one child, our lives have changed completely.  In the two years since, we have discovered that one child has autism and ADHD, another child has dyslexia, and yet another child has autism and dyslexia.

Whew.  I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you the last few years have been tough, but at least we have our diagnoses, and we are in the early stages of our course of action.

I’ve learned so much in the last few years about understanding and helping my kids.  And I’m glad, because autism and dyslexia will likely show up again in the next generation, when my kids have kids.  Everything we are learning to help our kids now, can also be used to help them when they have their own kids who will likely have learning differences.  (Dyslexia is genetic, and there is much speculation that autism is, too.)

I’d like to share our journey over the next 26 weeks while Blogging Through the Alphabet.  Look for a post every Friday from this Friday until August!
