My husband and I were drawn to the new movie, Patterns of Evidence Exodus because I’m interested in religion, and he got an undergraduate degree in archaeology. Patterns of Evidence Exodus dovetails both of our interests as film maker Timothy Mahoney sets out to determine if the Exodus happened as the Bible describes it.
Over the last 50 years, archaeologists have determined that there is no evidence uncovered that supports the Exodus as described in the Bible.
However, Mahoney explores the idea that perhaps historians and archaeologists are not finding evidence to support the Exodus because they’re looking in the wrong historical period. What if the Exodus happened much earlier than people believe? Is there evidence then?
Mahoney crisscrosses the globe interviewing a wide array of experts and scholars, including leading archaeologists Israel Finkelstein, Kent Weeks, and David Rohl, and guest appearances by Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and Shimon Peres, to determine the truth.
His case is compelling, and may start a movement to change people’s thoughts about whether or not the Exodus is Biblically accurate.
This movie is great entertainment, but it would also be good for high school students studying ancient history or religion.
