Last Saturday, I went to the store to buy some frozen vegetables and came home to find that our ancient refrigerator/freezer had died. I wasn’t really sad to see it go as it had been dripping water from the freezer onto all of the items in our refrigerator for months. We had a nice new refrigerator/freezer within 2 days.
Luckily, because of the pantry challenge, I had enough room in my deep freezer to accommodate almost all of the frozen items from the refrigerator. I did have to throw away some things. I took everything from the refrigerator and tried to pack it in our cooler, and I left the condiments in a basket on our back steps, which are normally quite cool. However, the temperature was around 40 degrees outside, making our back stairway closer to 50 to 55 degrees, so we lost some of our refrigerator items. That made this week’s grocery bill higher.
This week for groceries, I spent $88.53, in part to restock some of the condiments we lost. (You can see the full list of grocery items and the pictures here.)
Since January 1st, I have now spent $284.74. That leaves me with a meager $15.26 to last for the next 12 days. I will try to put off grocery shopping as long as I can this week, and luckily, we have plenty of freezer meals, so we will continue to eat almost exclusively from the freezer.
