Notebooking Pages was created by Debra L. Reed, a homeschooling mom of 10 children. She was burned out from teaching and found that her children weren’t retaining their lessons as well as she had hoped. Using Notebooking Pages gave her family freedom in their education, and even better, the children seemed to retain more information!
Our Experience Using Notebooking Pages
I had planned to have all three kids use Notebooking Pages, but Bookworm was busy studying for and traveling to the National History Bee, so he didn’t end up using them during the review period. My two youngest used them instead. I wasn’t sure how Notebooking Pages would work with kids finishing up Kindergarten and 1st grade, but they worked wonderfully!
We’re using BookShark Science 1, and I have corresponding workbook pages to go along with the science. However, Cuddle Bug is just learning to read, so she wouldn’t get much out of the workbook pages. Instead, we used Notebooking Pages. As we read our science books, I ask each girl to tell me what she found most interesting. After, we fill out our Notebooking Pages. PB & J Girl wrote her own. I helped Cuddle Bug with her spelling so she could write the sentence herself, too. Then they drew pictures. I plan to use these after each reading so they can record what they remember.
BookShark History and Literature 1, which we’re also using, starts with the book Charlotte’s Web. I entered that search term in Notebooking Pages, and lo and behold, I found a lap book for the book! The girls have colored the cover page, but we haven’t finished the book and all of the activities yet, so the lap book isn’t quite completed. However, my little tactile learner is really enjoying doing the lap book activities.
We also tried out Notebooking Pages with our geography study. We read the book, If You Were Me and Lived in Italy, and then the girls filled out a corresponding Notebooking Page.
What We Loved about Notebooking Pages
There is so much to love about this product!
When you first sign up for Notebooking Pages Lifetime Membership, you will receive several tutorials over the course of about a week. These tutorials are meant to help transition you into using Notebooking Pages and becoming familiar with the site. As a new user, I really appreciated this!
In addition, there are so many topics to choose from. You can find something for every age and topic. In truth, even though I’ve had access to Notebooking Pages for approximately 6 weeks, I still feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of what is available.
What We Disliked about Notebooking Pages
The only change I would like to see is if you could preview a link before you download it. For instance, if I type in the search term “mammals” I see a number of files. On my computer, if I click on them, they automatically download, even though they may or may not be the page that I want.
Other than this inconvenience, I can’t recommend the product enough, especially since the lifetime subscription is good for all your children for all their years of school.
If you and your kids are tired of filling out endless workbooks, consider switching to Notebooking Pages. They offer children a creative way to record and review the material that they’re learning daily.
