Out of the blue, my old high school and college friend called me to let me know that she would be only 2.5 hours from my house. (She lives 11 hours away.) We arranged a reunion, and I spent one day last weekend driving down to see her, hanging out, and driving back home. It was lovely to see her in person after 12 years!! But, the downside was that I do a lot of my work on the weekends, so I was behind all week.

However, my husband and I have told the girls that we’ll have to say no to activities some times, and that’s what we’re going to do. We have too much to get done and not enough time. I know this problem will disappear in a few short years when they graduate, so I’m also trying to embrace the season.

Here’s what I accomplished in one week of new goals:

Health Goals

Eat My Meals 3 Hours Apart

Successful this week! This is necessary to help me get rid of SIBO.

Follow a Paleo Diet

This week I followed a Paleo diet about 60% of the time. I’m finding I feel better on a Paleo diet, and I think it will help me with SIBO. Having said that, I don’t plan to be as rigid as I used to be when I followed Paleo. I will have things like sushi sometimes (like I did this weekend when I met with my friend), and I will occassionally have a slice of gluten free bread. If I’m Paleo 80 to 90 percent of the time, I’ll be happy.

Exercise

I have two goals for exercise:

Walk at Least One Mile a Day 5x a Week

I walked one mile 3x this week.

Lift Weights or Do Yoga Four Times a Week

I did not do this.

Make 5 Freezer Meals

I made one freezer meal this week. 1/5 accomplished.

As veggies come in from our garden, I plan to use some of them to make freezer meals. Then, when the garden is no longer producing in the late fall and winter, we’ll have meals packed full of veggie goodness. Hopefully this will also help us continue to save on our grocery bill.

Learning Japanese

PB & J Girl and I are using these resources to learn Japanese: Japanese Pod 101 , watching videos on YouTube, and using Adventures in Japanese. Here is my plan to amp up my own learning:

Listen to Japanese for 1,000 Minutes

I did not do this.

I plan to listen to Japanese music in the background when I work, listen to Japanese practices, and watch the news and videos in Japanese.

Study Japanese for 30 Minutes 4x a Week

I did not do this.

I really need to study vocabulary. Now that I’m older, it’s harder to get new information to stick in my brain.

Homeschool Goals

Last year I planned out all of PB & J Girl’s assignments in the summer so I didn’t have to do it during the school year. That’s what I plan to do this year, but I have less time since my hours increased at work, so I need to get started earlier.

Complete All of PB & J Girl’s Biology Labs

Did not happen this week.

She wants to be a biology major in college, so it’s imperative that we finish all of her labs by June 30th. Otherwise, she will have a high school biology credit without a lab, which is not what either of us want.

Plan Out Her Entire Geography Course & Work

No progress this week.

Last time I had this as a goal, I completed 15 weeks. I still have 21 more weeks to go!

Plan Out Her Entire Human Anatomy Course & Work

No progress this week.

I’m going to be doing a lot of curriculum planning this 6 weeks!

Complete the Girls’ Quarterly Reports & Submit

No progress this week.

Four times a year I have to spend a few hours completing each girl’s quarterly report to submit to our local school district.

Complete the Girls’ Letter of Intent

No progress this week.

I must also submit a letter of intent for the upcoming school year that we plan to homeschoo.

Complete the Girls’ Report Cards & Transcripts for the 2023-2024 Year

No progress this week.

Rest & Relaxation

Read 3 Books

I am making my way through this book. It took until about 120 pages in to hook me, but now I don’t want to stop reading it. Cuddle Bug is spending about 3 to 5 hours a week at the local ninja gym, which gives me plenty of time to read. I think this should be one of my easiest goals to accomplish.

Have 3 Family Outings

Not this week, though Cuddle Bug did go with me to meet my college friend. Also, the girls and I met friends on Friday and went to Great America.

We tend to work hard, but we don’t play hard. This six weeks, I want to have at least three family outings.

Financial Goals

I have two financial goal for this six weeks:

Don’t Spend Any More than $2,000 on Groceries

Eating Healthy Gluten Free Dairy Free Food on a Budget

I will have my total for May to share next week.

I need to make sure this goal happens this six weeks so we can stay on track for our 2024 Grocery Spending Goal.

Save $500 for Our Family Vacation

No progress this week.

We’re taking a family vacation in the fall, but we don’t have anything saved yet. Time to get going!

How are you doing on your goals for 2024?
