This post contains affiliate links. When I lived in Arizona, cloudy days were a rarity. Every day was full on sun. Here in Western New York, every day this month has been gray. However, early this week, there were two days where we received partial sun. Every moment the sun was out, we were outside walking or hiking. That’s part of the reason why I did great on my physical fitness goal this week! Here are my goals for 2023: week 3 of 52:
Personal Development
My kids are older now, so I have a bit more time to devote to personal development. So, these are the items I’d like to accomplish this year:
Write in my journal for 150 days
3.3% accomplished. I wrote in my journal three times this week, so I’m up to five times for the year.
Crochet an afghan for our bed
I crocheted one granny square. For the next three days, I tried to crochet another one, and they all looked deformed. I think I need to pick a different stitch/pattern or watch a different tutorial.
Try 52 new recipes
9.6% accomplished. This week I made two new recipes: Chicken Sausage, Pepper & Cauliflower Rice Skillet, (the family LOVED this one), and Slow Cooker Broccoli, Cheddar, and Potato Soup (left out the canned soup & used almond milk and Daiya cheese)
These are all the new recipes I tried this year:
Slow Cooker Broccoli, Cheddar, and Potato Soup (left out the canned soup & used almond milk and Daiya cheese)
Chicken Sausage, Pepper & Cauliflower Rice Skillet, (the family LOVED this one)
Slow Cooker Lentil Veggie Soup,
Read 30 books
10% accomplished. This week I read Copper Sun by Sharon Draper. You can read what I have in store for my reading challenge in 2023 in this blog post.
I have read three books in 2023:
Fairy Tale (review coming soon!)
Copper Sun (review coming soon!)
Volunteer 100 or more hours
1.25% accomplished. We didn’t volunteer this week, but we do have leads on another place to volunteer that will hopefully bump up our hours.
Spend an average of two hours a week on researching my genealogy through June
No Ancestry work this week.
Health
Since a few months into the pandemic, I’ve focused on getting healthier. This year, I plan to complete the weight-loss component of that journey.
Follow Weight Watchers of Healthi to help me lose the last 40 to 45 pounds I need to lose
I started again on Tuesday and have followed every day since then.
Exercise an average of 18000 minutes (300 hours) this year
2.3% accomplished. I exercised for 245 minutes this week (that’s over 4 hours, which I think is a new record for me!) That gives me a grand total of 410 minutes this year so far.
Adventure/Family Time
Bookworm is in college in Michigan and the girls are getting older, so my husband and I want to prioritize family time before we’re empty nesters.
Visit 26 attractions
3.8% accomplished. No trips this week. Here are the trips we’ve taken so far:
Trip to Rochester.
Spend 60,000 minutes (1000 hours) outdoors with the kids
.06% accomplished. We spent 215 minutes outdoors this week. So, we’ve spent 385 minutes outdoors this year.
I really don’t know if we’ll accomplish 1000 hours, but this goal is one that even if we fail, we win. Because we have this goal, we’re consciously spending more time outdoors.
Organization/Home Management
I have felt unorganized since June when we started prepping for our move. I really dislike feeling so scattered, so I’m planning to change that this year.
Stay ahead in my writing.
For my blog, have at least 5 posts written in advance at any point in time. For my paid writing, I’d like to be a week ahead.
Currently, I’m not ahead on my paid writing, and I have 1 post written in advance for my blog.
Have at least 12 freezer meals available in the freezer at any point in time.
I now have 8 meals in the freezer for the nights I don’t have time to cook. I have the following meals:
Chili (2 meals)
Beefy Kale Tomato Soup. (4 meals)
Ground Chicken & Hashbrown Patties (1 meal)
Slow Cooker Lentil Veggie Soup (1 meal)
Spend an average of three hours a week on administrative homeschool tasks
6.7% accompished. I spent 3.5 hours on homeschool and college-related activities this week. That included grading their work, writing each of their quarterly reports, and talking to them about dual-enrollment. So far, I’ve spent 10.25 hours this year on administrative homeschool tasks.
Get rid of 40 bags of clutter
7.5% complete. While cleaning the basement, I packed up two bags of clutter and set aside one small table to get rid of, which I’ll count as a bag.
That’s it. These are my ambitious goals for 2023. I’ll update them weekly as I have for the last several years.
What goals have you set for the new year?
