This post contains affiliate links. We put an offer in for our New York home on July 14th. Finally, next week we get to close on the house! We’ve been renting it from the owners, and they gave us permission to paint the front living room, and two upstairs bedrooms. Once we actually own the home, we can get to work on other projects we have such as the landscaping. We’re excited to make the house our own.
Here are my 2022 goals part 2: week 8 of 24.

My Goals for 2022 Part 2
HOME IMPROVEMENTS
These new home improvement goals are based on our new house.
Paint the front family room. This is done, but I can’t show you pictures because we still have a few boxes to unpack.Paint the downstairs hallway.Paint PB & J Girl’s bedroom. I’ll have pictures to share next week.Paint Cuddle Bug’s bedroom. This room had green carpet and dark yellow walls. We can’t afford to replace the carpet yet, but Cuddle Bug embraced it and picked a light green comforter and a light green accent wall. I love the way she embraced a color she would never chose and doesn’t really like.Cuddle Bug’s Bedroom BEFORE Cuddle Bug’s Bedroom AFTER Cuddle Bug’s Bedroom AFTER - Replace the kitchen sink.
- Buy
lawncareand snow removal equipment. (The owner of our new home kindly left their lawn mower and week wacker, so we don’t have to buy lawncare equipment.) - Move or trim some of the trees and landscaping close to the house to let in more natural light.
- Replace one of the bedroom windows.
HEALTH
Walk 175 Miles This Year
No walking yet. If I don’t get the treadmill set up and get going soon, this goal (even the revised one) will be difficult to accomplish.
This goal is 65.6% complete. For the year, I’ve walked 117.9 miles on the treadmill, for 2213 minutes.
Start Weight Watchers Again
I’ve maintained my 60+ pound weight loss from the pandemic, but I haven’t lost anymore. I plan to start again on September 20th after a few more big things we have in the works are done.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Read 40 Books
This goal is 75% complete. I did not finish any books this week, but I can’t wait until things settle down so I can start reading regularly again. I have finished 30 books in 2022:
Tasting the Sky (review coming soon)
Cloud Cuckoo Land (review coming soon)
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
The Unusual Life of Thomas Weaver
No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality
I’m Still Standing: From Captive U.S. Soldier to Free Citizen–My Journey Home
I’m currently reading/listening to several books. (Check out my reading challenge to see what I plan to read this year.)
Write in My Journal 30 Times This Year
This goal is 60% complete. I have written in my journal 18 times this year.
Make a Recipe Binder
Not yet. I know the recipes I want to add, so, that’s a start?
TRAVEL
Take Eight Local Trips
No time for trips or adventures so far. We’ve been too busy painting and getting estimates.
This goal is 37.5% complete.
In Arizona
Trip #1: We took our first trip to a local pop-up history event set in the 1880s. We saw a blacksmith working and listened to a band play old time music from the 1880s. It was a small event but fun.
Trip #2: We went to the Japanese Children’s Day Festival!
In Michigan
Trip #3: We stopped by Michigan to visit my mom before we make our way to New York. We decided to visit Adams Blueberry Farm to pick some organic blueberries. My kids haven’t done this for 8 years, since we moved to Arizona. My husband and I both commented how nice it is to be back in a place where we can do activities like this.
In New York
I’ve increased this goal from four local trips to eight because everything in New York will be new to us. Plus, we want to get out and enjoy our area before the snow comes!
HOMESCHOOL
Learn How to Homeschool in New York:
Arizona is a low-regulation state. I had to fill out a form stating we were homeschooling when we moved here, and that was it. New York, on the other hand, is one of the most highly-regulated states to homeschool in, so the learning curve is steep.
-
Watch info videos on how to homeschool in New York. I did this and already submitted my Letter of Intent to Homeschool.Make an education plan for this year for each of the girls. I finished this yesterday, even though we’ve been homeschooling again since last week.- Contact the local district and fill out the appropriate paperwork
Find homeschool groups to join. We have found two groups to join and activities will begin next week.
GOALS I ACHIEVED IN 2022
These are the goals I’ve achieved so far in 2022:
HOME IMPROVEMENTS
In our old house, our realtor hooked us up with her contract. He and his team were able to finish our master bathroom for much less than the tile company we hired last December to remodel the master shower.

Replace the sliding glass door handleDONE!Finish our master bathroom(We had a new shower tile installed, but we still have improvements to make.)
*Replace the master bathroom towel holders(new addition)
*Paint the master bathroom ceiling(new addition)
*Paint the master bathroom(new addition)
*Paint the master bathroom trim(new addition)
Travel to Michigan
We went to Michigan!! We’ve actually gone to Michigan three times this year because of all the back-and-forth driving we’ve done between Arizona and New York. This goal has been accomplished many times over.
