This post contains affiliate links. So, we’re moving from Arizona to New York. And that, my friends, requires a change of goals. Why? Well, moving requires that some of my goals change because I’ll be in a new setting and a new house. Also, my time will be at a premium this year, so I don’t want to spend my time doing some of my more mundane goals from the beginning of 2022 like deleting emails. In a regular, life-is-settled year, having a goal to delete emails is fine. In a life’s-been-turned-upside-down-temporarily year, I have other ways I want to spend my time.
The goals from early in 2022 that I completed will be at the bottom of this list. The goals I’m still working on will remain, and I have also added new goals for the remainder of the year. Here are my 2022 goals part 2: week 1 of 24.

My Goals for 2022 Part 2
HOME IMPROVEMENTS
These new home improvement goals are based on our new house. We won’t move in until sometime in August, so I’m making these goals based on my memory. I may be adding more to this list once we move in:
- Get a radon mitigation system (Our home is at the high end of the safe range for radon, so we opted to get this system to be safe.)
- Paint the front family room.
- Paint two of the upstairs bedrooms.
- Replace the kitchen sink.
- Buy lawncare and snow removal equipment. (Since our home in Arizona has a yard made of rocks, we don’t have any lawn care or snow removal equipment.)
- Move or trim some of the trees and landscaping close to the house to let in more natural light.
HEALTH
Walk 175 Miles This Year
I am keeping walking as a goal, but I’m reducing the number of miles because my treadmill is currently packed away and will be until we get settled in our new house.
This goal is 65.6% complete. For the year, I’ve walked 114.9 miles on the treadmill, for for 2148 minutes.
Start Weight Watchers Again
I’ve maintained my 60+ pound weight loss from the pandemic, but I haven’t lost anymore. I can’t even give you an exact number because the scale is packed away. Once we’re settled, probably in late August or early September, I plan to restart my Weight Watchers journey.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Read 40 Books
This goal is 70% complete. I have finished 28 books so far this year:
Tasting the Sky (review coming soon)
Cloud Cuckoo Land (review coming soon)
The Unusual Life of Thomas Weaver
No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality
I’m Still Standing: From Captive U.S. Soldier to Free Citizen–My Journey Home
I’m currently reading/listening to several books. (Check out my reading challenge to see what I plan to read this year.)
Write in My Journal 30 Times This Year
This goal is 60% complete. I have written in my journal 18 times this year.
Make a Recipe Binder
Not yet. In the process of packing, I found the long-lost recipe binder. I will start filling it out once we’re settled in New York.
TRAVEL
Take Eight Local Trips
This goal is 25% complete.
In Arizona
Trip #1: We took our first trip to a local pop-up history event set in the 1880s. We saw a blacksmith working and listened to a band play old time music from the 1880s. It was a small event but fun.
Trip #2: We went to the Japanese Children’s Day Festival!
In New York
I’ve increased this goal from four local trips to eight because everything in New York will be new to us. Plus, we want to get out and enjoy our area before the snow comes!
HOMESCHOOL
Learn How to Homeschool in New York:
Arizona is a low-regulation state. I had to fill out a form stating we were homeschooling when we moved here, and that was it. New York, on the other hand, is one of the most highly-regulated states to homeschool in, so the learning curve is steep.
- Watch info videos on how to homeschool in New York
- Make an education plan for this year for each of the girls
- Contact the local district and fill out the appropriate paperwork
- Find homeschool groups to join.
GOALS I ACHIEVED IN 2022
These are the goals I’ve achieved so far in 2022:
HOME IMPROVEMENTS
Our realtor hooked us up with her contract. He and his team were able to finish our master bathroom for much less than the tile company we hired last December to remodel the master shower.

Replace the sliding glass door handleDONE!Finish our master bathroom(We had a new shower tile installed, but we still have improvements to make.)
*Replace the master bathroom towel holders(new addition)
*Paint the master bathroom ceiling(new addition)
*Paint the master bathroom(new addition)
*Paint the master bathroom trim(new addition)
Travel to Michigan
We went to Michigan!! We’ve actually gone to Michigan three times this year because of all the back-and-forth driving we’ve done between Arizona and New York. This goal has been accomplished many times over.
Final Thoughts
