UPDATE: The winner is Eva [email protected] Congratulations!
I am not a fan of coconut. I don’t like coconut flakes, and I often find the taste of coconut overpowering. However, I have read that it has many beneficial properties, so I wanted to try it.
We tried Kelapo Coconut Oil, and we all enjoyed it!
The first time we used it was as a replacement for butter in a gluten free birthday cake we made for my mom. My mom loves coconut, and she enjoyed the cake with its hint of coconut.
Next, I tried it on a roasted acorn squash and salmon. While I may have tasted a hint of coconut, it was not overpowering, and in fact the taste made both the squash and salmon better. It is now my favorite way to prepare both dishes.
We also used it to make kale chips and in our sauteed spinach. We have used it as a replacement for many of the dishes we used to make with canola oil, and we prefer the taste when we use coconut oil.
For me, the strangest thing about using coconut oil is how it can sometimes be a solid if it is cold enough in your house, or it can turn to a liquid if it is warm enough. When I rubbed the oil on the fish, it literally turned to a solid while I was rubbing it on because the fish was still quite cold.
Beyond that difference, I was quite surprised to find out how much I like coconut oil.
Kelapo’s website also lists several different uses for coconut oil besides for cooking including using it as a hot oil treatment for damaged hair, cleaning, and as a body scrub!
The Giveaway
Kelapo is offering one lucky Mom’s Plans’ reader a five travel size pouches as well as a sample of their soft gels and a Kelapo tote. To enter, simply leaving a comment stating if you use already use coconut oil or not. If you do, what is your favorite way to use it? If you don’t, why not?
This giveaway is open to U.S. residents ages 18+ and will end on November 19th at 11:59 p.m. CST. The winner will be chosen via random.org.
I received a sample of the coconut oil for review purposes. No other compensation was given. All opinions are my own.

My wife is much like you in that you can’t stand coconut except for the little bit the use making carrot cake. I on the other hand love it. Coconut pie, almond joys, you name it I am for it. I don’t know about coconut oil though. I would have to try it out and then even if I do like it I will have to sneak and use it without my wife knowing.
OMG! Yes i use it . Ive always loved the taste of coconut and recently started reading all the wonderful benefits this oil has. Not only do i use it in cooking, i use it for cosmetic purposes as well.
I loooooooove coconut oil. I use it to saute veggies as well as take a tablespoon a day for the general health benefits!
I use coconut oil as a moisturizer, I looooove the way it smells. But I haven’t used it for cooking yet.
I haven’t used coconut oil before, but I’ve been hearing such great things about it that I would love to give it a try!
I’ve never tried coconut oil because of the price. I would love to try some, though!
I like to cook with coconut oil. I make lotions and creams with it, and scrubs as well. I have yet to explore all the more reasons to use coconut oil. It’s SO lovely! 🙂
We love coconut oil, I keep a small jar next to the stove for frying food. I do find that food tend to stick a tad more, can’t deep fry in coconut oil, but it’s really heathly (and non-GMO!)
I never tried the Kalapo but I will be elated to be a winner 🙂 Thank you in advance.
I love Kelapo Coconut Oil! I use their products all of the time, but lugging a big jar around is not always easy! I use it in so many ways, but my favorite is a safe, Organic alternative to chapstick for my 4 year-old son. While he’s away at preschool, I want to make sure his lips and mouth area are nourished and protected while he is outside playing in the cold autumn air on the playground. No more flaky, sore lips for my little man! He has smooth, healthy Kelapo Kid skin! 🙂 I would love to send a packet or two to school with him!
I do use coconut oil and I love it. But I’ve never tried this brand, so I’m curious.
I do not presently use the Kelapo Coconut Oil but I have heard nothing but wonderful things about it.I would love to give it a try.

I was hearing about the benefits of coconut oil just yesterday! My coworker told me about using it with his pets, both to aid digestion and topically to help the coat. Sounds like something I should try.
Oh I love coconut. I love coconut water with it’s natural electrolytes. I use coconut oil in all of my herbal salves, lotion’s, and have even used it for infusions. I have very long hair and use coconut oil about every 2 weeks as a hot oil treatment before I shampoo. I also use it in the kitchen where it replaces butter and oil in many recipes. Coconut oil’s many health benefits are why I use this sustainable product.
Hi – just started using coconut oil (though not this brand since i’ve not seen it before), and i’m not a fan of coconut normally, but boy does it make GREAT brownies!! my whole family loves them!

While I’m not a regular user of coconut oil in cooking, I have purchased it in the past and used it. And I quite liked it actually — in curries and the like, and also baked goods. I think it’s just basically cost that has kept me from continuing to use it….
I love using coconut oil both for cooking and as a moisturizer. I make a veggie tofu stir fry that is healthy and tasty (not to mention very inexpensive) and using the coconut oil gives it a special flavor. Love it!
I have not tried coconut oil- I don’t know why because I really love coconut!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE coconut oil… use about 4 different brands right now, depending on what I need it for. I use it first for health reasons… it is SOOOO good for you. then for taste and other benefits. Many people are now using it since they learned about its many advantages through my advise. some ways: mouth rinse, digestive aid, baking, cooking, hair moisturizer, face moisturizer, great in smoothies… and more… I recently had someone tell me they use it as a frosting replacement when trying dairyfree frostings,…. but living in the south, I have yet to conquer that one! Would love to review the Kelapo coconut oil line..

I have tasted things cooked with coconut oil, but I have yet to try it myself. I am in school right now, and with exams and such, I haven’t had as much time to cook. However, I definitely can’t wait to try it!
I do,great for dry skin in the colder months.
I haven’t used coconut oil before, but I keep hearing about it and would love to give it a try!
I’m really interested in using coconut oil to fit into our new healthier lifestyles. Unfortunately the price has always dissuaded me from trying it. Out here in KS it seems like I can get 2-3x canola oil for the price they charge for coconut oil. Hope I get to try some so I can justify spending the extra money.
I’ve never tried it but I really want to!
I use coconut oil for body care needs. I also use it to add more moisturizing properties and thickness to cheap store bought lotions.
I use it like lotion!! I love how soft it makes my skin feel 🙂

I went to the holistic health store and told the lady that my skin was incredibly dry. (I just moved from SC where it’s high humidity to Las Vegas where they look at you funny if you say the word humidity. Kind of like they don’t know what you are talking about. She told me to put Coconut oil on my skin, which I do religiously every day and it makes my skin feel so good.
I have never try it but always wanted to try and make soap with it.

No but I want to! A friend of mine uses coconut oil to pop her popcorn! Doesn’t taste much sweeter like you would think but it was still yummy!
I love coconut, but to be honest I don’t like using coconut oil in certain dishes. I currently use organic cold pressed coconut oil for some breakfast dishes, desserts and for popping stove top popcorn (my fave). I can taste the coconut in most dishes so it matters to me. I also use it as a moisturizer. Even on my face. Even on minor diaper rash on my kids. I’m a fan, what can I say?!
I use coconut oil as a beauty product for my hair and skin and also for cooking! =)
winitmama(at)gmail(dot)com

I have tried coconut oil once….I had read an article about women in India using coconut oil in their hair to make it sleek and shiny. I decided to try it, but didn’t know I was supposed to heat it first, or that I was supposed to wash it out. Next time, I will do both! 🙂
