I’m always looking for music that blends into the background when I work.  I also look for inspiring music, especially with strong, encouraging lyrics.

I have found both in Kari Jobe’s new CD, The Garden.

This full-length CD contains 14 songs, each of which is four to six minutes long.  This is Jobe’s fourth album, and is a welcome addition to her portfolio!

For those of you who don’t know, Jobe’s first album was released in 2009, and she’s been prolific since then.

This album might be closest to her heart, though, because it came from tragedy.  Jobe and her sister were both pregnant and expecting babies three months apart.  Tragedy struck when Jobe’s sister had her baby early, at only seven months pregnant.  The baby was stillborn.  Jobe went on to deliver a healthy baby a few months later, and while she was excited to have her new baby, Canyon, her heart ached for her sister.

It was a dark winter of the spirit for Jobe, but slowly, she opened up to the bounty and life of spring, both as it occurred in nature and as it occurred in her spirit.  She says, “What felt dead in my heart was starting to wake up.  It was like I’d been in this place of being numb in my walk with the Lord, but something just started blooming in my heart.”

This album offers hope and encouragement in the midst of pain and tragedy.
