So much for my wish to be done with dental appointments. I had to go see the dentist again to try to figure out what the red spot on my gum is since having the root canal improved, but did not heal, the red spot. This time, the dentist found a chip in the filling on the side of my tooth right next to the area where the gum is red, so he filled it, smoothed it, and told me to come back in two weeks. Hopefully, this will do the trick. But now that I’ve had 6 different appointments for this problem with two different dentists, one periodontist, and one endodontist, I’m not holding my breath. 🙂
We seem to have hit a good homeschool stride and are getting a lot accomplished every week.
This week was a memorable one because Cuddle Bug (who will be 5 next month) read her very first book to me!!!
I have to confess, when I first started homeschooling, I was worried sick about how I would teach the girls to read. Yet, this year we’ve been using The Logic of English, and the girls are just doing fantastic.
I loved when Bookworm was little and started reading, but this is even more special because I was the one who taught the girls to read.
Here are some highlights from our week:
Friday at the Park
We met up with a homeschool group on Friday and played at the park.
I’m really struggling with what curriculum to choose for Bookworm for next year. He’ll be going into 6th grade, so I feel like this is the time when we should be searching out and trying the curriculum we want to use for him in high school. I liked one Catholic homeschool provider, and one of the moms at the park had the 6th grade curriculum at home. After we finished playing at the park, we went to her house to peruse the material. I liked it.
But, Friday night my husband and I discussed it, and he didn’t care for some of the textbooks, so we’re still searching.
Saturday at the Tucson Festival of Books
Saturday we went to the Tucson Festival of Books. We were there for 6 hours and had a great time. What a privilege to have this fabulous conference take place right in our backyard! Bookworm went to a session with me to learn about international books. That day when we got home he ordered them from the library. Some have already come in, and he’s already read a few.
The Rest of the Week
This week we once again spent a lot of time at home, so we made good progress on the kids’ homeschooling. Bookworm finished up some quarterly exams and is now into the 3rd quarter, so he’s about halfway done with his 5th grade curriculum. (We started school late this year–September 22–so we’ll be finishing up sometime mid to late summer.)
The girls are working on Logic of English, MUS Primer, an art program, and Sonlight’s P4/5 curriculum. Next week will be our last week of P4/5. I’m not really sure where to go from there. I do have Sonlight’s Core A, but I’m afraid it will be too difficult for Cuddle Bug. I’ve also looked at some Catholic curriculum, but I haven’t decided yet. I may just get some good books from the library and read to them (in addition to doing MUS and Logic of English) until I figure out what I want to teach in Kindergarten and 1st grade. After all, they won’t officially start those grades until next fall.
Do you homeschool? If so, how was your week?
