You might remember are 200 pounds of apples that are filling our spare refrigerator downstairs? We’ve been eating them by themselves, as apple crisp, and as slow cooker applesauce.
Lots and lots of slow cooker applesauce.
I can’t believe how much better it is than store bought, and it’s so simple to make!
Best of all, it’s sugar free and only has 4 ingredients.
Homemade Sugar-Free Slow Cooker Paleo Applesauce
3/4 cup water
1 TBSP lemon juice
27 to 30 small Rome apples or 20 large apples (enough to fill a 5 to 6 quart slow cooker to the top)
1/2 to 1 TBSP cinnamon, depending on preference
-Put the water and lemon juice in the slow cooker.
-Peel, core and cut the apple into slices. Mix with the water and lemon juice to help prevent browning while you prepare the rest of the apples.
-When the slow cooker is full, sprinkle the cinnamon over the top and stir thoroughly.
-Heat on high for one hour.
-After one hour, cook on low for 4 to 5 more hours until the apple slices become chunky bits when you stir.
-If you like smooth applesauce, puree in a food processor. (That’s the way we do it.)
