I have missed garlic bread since I found out I was dairy intolerant, so my husband came up with this great dairy free version, which is much healthier than the garlic bread you can find frozen in the store, slathered with butter.
Homemade Garlic Bread
1 loaf bread (dairy free)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp. garlic
dash of onion powder
1/4 tsp. salt
dash of pepper
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
Mix all ingredients (except bread) in a bowl and blend well. Spread across the bread.
Broil in the oven for 3 to 5 minutes until it is golden.
I have tried this two different ways. First, we used Jimmy John’s day old bread, which produced a crispy version. Most recently I used The Frugal Girl’s French bread recipe (with 1/2 c. whole wheat flour). This version produced a softer garlic bread. Both were good.
Enjoy!
I shared this post at $5 Dinners and Tempt My Tummy Tuesdays.

Sounds delicious! I’ve been using The Frugal Girl’s french bread for many recipes, including garlic bread. I’ll have to try your version, both with the whole wheat flour, and using olive oil instead of butter. Thanks for the idea!
This looks really good, and given that I’m all about healthy recipes, I might try this. It resonates because just the other night I was out to dinner and ordered a side of garlic bread that tasted good but I just knew it wasn’t healthy.
It is yummy, and much better for you without the slather of butter. Let me know if you try it and how it is.
That does sound yummy. I love garlic bread so I might have to give this recipe a try.
Let me know how you like it!
Will try this recipe, my 9 year old has just developed dairy intolerance and we are trying to make life as normal as possible, thanks for posting it!
