As a reminder, part of my plan to reduce our grocery budget is to buy about $250 in stock up items each month and $500 in regular groceries.  I wasn’t keeping good track of that, so this week, I tried to separate out stock up items and regular weekly purchases.

I planned on a light grocery shopping week, but I bought a little more than I had planned.  I had also planned to buy some meat from Butcher Box, but since we’re over budget for this time of the month, I pushed back the Butcher Box order until January.  Since we’re out of our 1/4 side of beef and 1/2 side of pork, we’ve been using a lot of ground meat.  We want to make room in the budget for some other cuts of meat, so that will come in January.

Just a Few Facts About Us

Our family of 5 chooses to eat mostly organic produce and grass-fed and pasture-raised meats.  I’m Paleo, my daughter is semi-Paleo, and the rest of us are gluten free.  Everyone except my husband is dairy free.  Our goal for the last few months of the year is to spend on average $750 per month on groceries.

Here’s what we bought over the last week:

Natural Grocers, Walmart, Basha’s & Sprout’s – $94.51

Not pictured – one 5 lb. box of clementines

In this trip we spent approximately $67 in regular groceries and approximately $28  in stock up food.  The Daiya cheese was on sale for $3 a bag, so I bought four.  (These freeze well.)  Also, the Creme Brulee Latte coffee was on sale $3.99 for a 12 oz. bag.  I bought this on clearance last year after Christmas and stocked up enough that my husband just finished it.  Now that it’s on sale through all of December, I’ll keep stocking up this month.

Costco – $92.09

Believe it or not, we’ll eat most of these foods in a week to 10 days.  The only items that were stock up were the cauliflower, the onion flakes, and the garlic powder, so about $17.

Natural Grocers – $12.75

We almost never spend money on beverages (we drink water or rarely, rice milk).  I do buy coffee for my husband, and during the holiday season, I buy dairy free egg nog for me and the kids.

I also bought Daiya mac & cheese because Cuddle Bug is under the weather, and I thought she might like to eat it.  Maybe she will, but right now, she’s still feeling too sick to eat much.  🙁

TOTAL: $199.35

TOTAL for December so far: $523.32

TOTAL for November: $772.89

TOTAL for October: $1,180.05

TOTAL for September: $1,022.29

Average for 4 months:  $911.02
