So, thanks to many, many medical bills, our budget is T-I-G-H-T!  Even though we have previously given ourselves $780 – $1,050 for groceries each month, I’m on a mission to not spend more than $750 a month.  My husband is sure that I cannot do it.  I’m up for the challenge.

However, this month will be even more difficult because I want to set aside some of our grocery money this month for the 1/4 side of beef we like to buy 2x a year.  The next opportunity to buy is in October, and I’ll need about $600 for the purchase.

By keeping such careful track this week, I noticed that we’re wasting money on snack items like date/coconut balls and Nugo bars.  We have to take one of our children to an appointment 30 minutes away 4 to 5x a week.  Then we have to wait around for 45 minutes until the appointment is over to drive the 30 minutes back home.  Those appointment times seem to coincide during snack time, hence the expensive snack foods.  From now on, I’ll have to be more diligent about bringing food for us.

Just a Few Facts About Us

Our family of 5 chooses to eat mostly organic produce and grass-fed and pasture-raised meats.  I’m Paleo, my daughter is semi-Paleo, and the rest of us are gluten free.  Everyone except my husband is dairy free. We were intolerant to beans, but I’m gradually reintroducing them to see how our family does.
