I remember that it was in college that I learned the story of the Great Flood was not unique to Christians but is mentioned in many other cultures and religions, including two other large religions–Judaism and Islam.  Of course, we all know the story of Noah’s Ark, but like so many stories in religion, we just have to go with faith that it did occur as there is, thus far, no physical evidence of the Ark.

The movie, Finding Noah, narrated by Gary Sinise, follows a group of people who summit Mt. Ararat, where Noah’s Ark was to have landed after the Flood, to see if they can find the Ark.  (You can watch the trailer here.)

Their challenge is a great one.  Would the Ark survive all of this time?  Researchers argue that it could, if it were entombed in ice on the mountain.  However, the mountain is filled with great cravasses and fissures, which, if the Ark were there, could tear the Ark to shreds.

In addition, the location where they search for the Ark is filled with political unrest.  As the researchers got to Base Camp II, they heard gun fire in the distance.  The researchers put themselves at significant physical risk, both because of the political atmosphere and the danger of climbing the mountain itself.

This fascinating movie, which is in theaters October 8th only, is full of suspense and thrilling moments as the group summits the mountain and digs deep into the ice to an area where they have found what looks on radar to be the corner of a rectangular shape that could be the remains of Noah’s Ark.  Watching the researchers dedication to finding the Ark is an important part of the movie as is watching the ascent.  Clearly, searching for Noah’s Ark is not for the faint of heart.
