As I said last week, Bookworm is now in charge of buying his own groceries (with our money), and making his own food. He’s loving it and learning a lot along the way. However, I’m still learning to adjust. Bookworm is the largest eater in the house, so now that he’s not eating the meals I prepare, I find that we have more leftovers. Also, I’m still shopping the same way, so I overspent this week. Maybe next week I’ll be able to successfully shop for four! Here’s how we are eating healthy gluten free dairy free food on a budget this week.
Here’s what I bought the week of 12/1 – 12/7:
Natural Grocer’s, Big Lots & Sprout’s – $36.96
Organic potatoes were on sale 5 lbs. for $1.99, which is the lowest price I ever see. I bought a few bags, and I’ll use them to put some of our homemade French fries in the freezer.
Costco, Trader Joe’s, Natural Grocers & Sprout’s – $121.73
This shopping trip was so big, I had to take two pictures!
We got a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, and some Daiya cheese and Nut Thins that were on sale.
We also bought some large bags of frozen veggies at Costco. I think we’ll be taking a pantry challenge next week since I went over budget this week!
Bookworm’s Groceries – $45
Here’s what our son bought this week:
Fry’s – $21
He bought Pollock, BOGO for $3.99. And he also took advantage of a buy 5 save $5 sale when buying the frozen veggies and salad dressing.
Sprout’s – $24
Sprout’s was having 25% off their bulk bins sale, so he stocked up on a lot of bulk items. He also bought some almonds for $3.99 a pound. He also found 3 pounds of ribs marked down to $6, so he got those.
Week 6 Totals
FYI, I’m going to stop separating out my grocery purchases by stock up, weekly groceries, and meat purchases. It got to complicated. So, as I said in my original post about how we plan to save money on groceries, the goal is to spend $200 or less per week on average.
Week 6 Total: $203.69
Yearly Totals:
Week 1 Total: $106.79
Week 2 Total: $223.12
Week 3 Total: $131.54
Week 4 Total: $212.37
Week 5 Total: $179.91
Total Spent: $1,057.42
Weekly Average: $176.23
