Our local homeschool group got a notice in early December that the National History Bee was waiving the test fee ($150!) for homeschoolers to take the preliminary online test, which was to be taken in mid-January.
Bookworm, a total history buff, had me sign him up, and then, during his five week Christmas break, he spent several hours a day reading history books. I had nothing to do with it. He researched his own books, reserved them at the library, and read, read, read. I’m not even sure if I should consider Christmas break a break for him since he did so much history work!
To our delight, we found out in late January that he qualified for the Regional Finals. He continued his studying, but it was difficult because we’re so overbooked this semester. (Note to self–never overbook this badly again!!) He was a bit stressed for the two months before the Regional Finals.
We’re looking into fund raising ideas to see if we’ll be able to take him. I’d love to, since it will be quite the experience!
I’m so proud of his hard work and drive!
