I have always loved stir fries.  After I found out I was dairy intolerant, we began to eat more stir fries, until I found out a few months later that I was also soy intolerant.  I thought my enjoyment of stir fries was over until my husband got to work making a soy-free stir fry.  Thank goodness he likes to experiment in the kitchen!  Here is a great recipe:

Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry – Soy Free

3 heads broccoli
2 t-bone steaks, cut into bite size pieces
2 cloves garlic
1/2 tbsp. ginger
3/4 cup mirin
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. salt
dash of red pepper
3 tbsp. vegetable oil

-Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper and marinate in 1/3 cup of the mirin overnight in the refrigerator.

-In a small bowl, mix garlic, ginger, another 1/3 cup of mirin, onion powder, 1 tsp. salt, 2 tbsp. oil.

-Cut the broccoli in bite size pieces and stir fry in 1 tbsp. oil for 4 minutes until bright green and crisp.  Add a small amount of water to prevent burning, if necessary.  Remove from pan and set aside.

-Add beef to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.  Before it is completely brown, add the remaining mirin to the pan for extra moisture.

-Remove beef and wipe out the pan with a paper towel to remove extra fat.

-Add broccoli and beef back to the pan, cover with the sauce and stir until warmed through.
