Goals for 2018: Week 27 of 52

This week was crazy busy thanks to arranging respite care for my child with autism and having a 3 hour(!) ABA intake as well as attending the final appointment with the psychiatrist to diagnosis my other child, who did indeed get a diagnosis of autism.   Funny that I always had what I thought were quirky kids, and now I know I actually have two with high functioning autism.

As devastating as that can feel sometimes, I’m glad that they’re both diagnosed and that I can start the process of ABA for both of them.  I know many children with autism have had great success with ABA; I hope that’s true for my kids as well.

Make Time to Relax

Read a book a week.   I currently have four books that I’m reading–A Casualty of War, Smart but Scattered, No Longer Little, and The Librarian of Auschwitz, though I’m mainly focusing on A Casualty of War.  The book started out very.slowly! for the first 150 pages, but now it’s getting good and I’m enjoying reading it more.

WriteMy goal was two parts–writing twice in my journal, and write one post for the blog besides the goals post and the book review post.   I wrote two times in my journal and wrote one additional posts to be scheduled over the next few weeks.

Care for Myself

Exercise.  My goal was to exercise 20 minutes this week, and I exercised 30 minutes, doing three short 10 minute yoga sessions.  The weather was crazy this week; one day, at 6 a.m. it was 90 degrees and the wind was blowing at 35 mph, so I decided yoga was the best choice this week.

Eat only when I’m hungry. This is a struggle, struggle, struggle.

Create a Manageable Schedule for Myself

I have decided that everyone in our family needs a schedule, especially since most kiddos on the spectrum do better with a routine.  I know I’ll have to be flexible for a few weeks, but once we find out about ABA, I’ll be able to make a more concrete schedule.  I think in the next 4 to 6 weeks, I’ll have a better idea what our schedule will look like.  The latter half of July and the beginning of August look to be a time of transition.

Clean Up for 5 Minutes After Kids Are in Bed

I’m reducing this to just 5 minutes a night.  This didn’t happen this week.

Re-establish My Prayer Routine – ACCOMPLISHED!

I have been doing great with this.  I’m marking it as accomplished because I’ve successfully done it the past few weeks, and it’s now become habit for me.

How are you doing on your goals?  I’d love it if you’d share in the comments!

  1. This is not goal related, but I have followed your blog for awhile and know your family enjoys Beanitos chips. Our Kroger is having a sale on Beanitos for the month of July for just $1.89! I know you live in a different area, but maybe yours will have that price too.
