Goals for 2018: Week 23 of 52

Here I am.

You may have noticed that the blog writing has slowed down significantly the last few months.  That’s simply because of L.I.F.E.  Because I thought I had three healthy, normal kids, and in the last two and a half years, I’ve discovered I have not one but two children with high functioning autism.

I’ll be honest, lately most days are pretty overwhelming.  Our one child is still in the process of getting a formal diagnosis, but we are in the process of getting ABA therapy for the other child who was diagnosed in late 2016.  I don’t know if it will help or not, but trying it is worth a shot.

Some days everything in our home is chaos (or at least it feels that way), and other days, we get by.  I miss blogging. . .honestly, I miss much of my old life when I had more time.  However, my priority will always be my family.  I have thought about giving up the blog, but I really do enjoy blogging, and for now, I plan to continue.

Meanwhile, these goals are making me feel a bit defeated because so many other parts of my life are requiring so much time and mental energy.  I’m scaling my goals WAY back this week so I can hopefully build some momentum.

Make Time to Relax

Read a book a week.   I’m still reading The 5 Love Languages.  I finished  The Hidden Side, and I loved it!  Look for a review this Friday.

Write.  I’m breaking this goal into two parts–writing twice in my journal, and write one post for the blog besides the goals post and the book review post.

Care for Myself

Exercise.  Exercise a total of 20 minutes this week.

Eat only when I’m hungry. I’m the world’s biggest stress eater, so I often eat not when I’m hungry, but when I feel stress, which happens many times a day lately.  Based on Geneen Roth’s teachings, I’m going to eat only when hungry.

Create a Manageable Schedule for Myself

I have decided that everyone in our family needs a schedule, especially since most kiddos on the spectrum do better with a routine.  I know I’ll have to be flexible for a few weeks, but once we find out about ABA, I’ll be able to make a more concrete schedule.

Clean Up for 5 Minutes After Kids Are in Bed

I’m reducing this to just 5 minutes a night.

Re-establish My Prayer Routine – ACCOMPLISHED!

I have been doing great with this.  I’m marking it as accomplished because I’ve successfully done it the past few weeks, and it’s now become habit for me.

How are you doing on your goals?  I’d love it if you’d share in the comments!
