Grocery Report, January 11-17, 2018

My mom left last week (boo hoo!), but before she left, she gave us money for groceries for her 6 weeks here.  We used that money to stock up on some items like meat from Butcher Box.

Just a Few Facts About Us

Our family of 5 chooses to eat mostly organic produce and grass-fed and pasture-raised meats.  I’m Paleo, my daughter is semi-Paleo, and the rest of us are gluten free.  Everyone except my husband is dairy free.  Our goal for 2018 is to spend on average $750 per month (or less) on groceries.

Here’s what we bought last week:

Costco – $56.20

Bashas’, Trader Joe’s & Sprouts – $33.21

Trader Joe’s & Sprouts – $60.09

Trader Joe’s & Sprouts – $21.90

All of the sausage that are in the Sprout’s trips were on clearance.  My husband usually cooks two on the weekend and takes a little bit each day in his lunch for protein.  We only buy these when they’re on clearance, and this week there were a lot on clearance, so I took advantage.  We had been all out.  My husband also sometimes cooks up organ meat for his lunch instead, but since we haven’t bought 1/4 side of beef in over a year, we’re out of organ meat.  I was glad to stock up on the sausage so his lunches are covered for the next two to three months.

Butcher Box – $174.00

We still have bacon left from our big stock up in December, but Butcher Box had it for $4 a package, so I bought the maximum we could get–8 packages.

We haven’t ordered a Butcher Box since July, and I was happy to see that this time I could customize it.  I tried to order cuts of meat that we could stretch so our box lasts longer.

We got 8 packages of bacon, one whole chicken, one pork tenderloin, 2 packages stew meat, 1 package premium steak tips, 1 tri-tip, and 4 sirloin steaks.

Vitacost – $28.86

I got the mac & cheese for $3.14 a box, which is the lowest price I have found.  I stocked up in anticipation of Lent when we won’t be able to have meat on Fridays.

TOTAL$374.26 (-$350 my mom gave us) = $24.26

TOTAL for last week: $597.30

TOTAL for January so far: $621.56
