Grocery Report, September 7th – 13th, 2017

Over Labor Day weekend, I ended up making 33 freezer meals, and I already had nine freezer meals in there, so now we have 42 freezer meals.  That’s great news.

This week I bought a 50 pound bag of gluten free oats, which is great news for my family’s hungry stomachs, but, wow, that bulk purchase hit the grocery budget hard.  Now, I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to save for our bulk beef purchase.  The next two weeks will be very tight just to eek out a little savings for the beef.

Just a Few Facts About Us

So, thanks to many, many medical bills, our budget is T-I-G-H-T!  Even though we have previously given ourselves $780 – $1,050 for groceries each month, I’m on a mission to not spend more than $750 a month.  My husband is sure that I cannot do it.  I’m up for the challenge.  I did spend less than $750 last month, and I even had $81 leftover to set aside for our semi-annual beef purchase.

Our family of 5 chooses to eat mostly organic produce and grass-fed and pasture-raised meats.  I’m Paleo, my daughter is semi-Paleo, and the rest of us are gluten free.  Everyone except my husband is dairy free. We were intolerant to beans, but I’m gradually reintroducing them to see how our family does.

Here’s what we bought this week:

Azure Standard – $75.65

So, we’ve reintroduced gluten free oats into the family’s diet, and I wanted to buy them through Azure because they’re much cheaper than any other place I can buy them.  But, Azure was out of the smaller packages, so I bought the 50 lb. bag.  I put these in freezer bags in the freezer, and I’m guessing these will last us for a year, at least.  However, it’s tough taking that kind of hit to the grocery budget when we already have a tight month and we’re trying to save for the beef.  Hopefully this purchase will help decrease our grocery budget a bit in the next few months.

Sprout’s & Trader Joe’s – $36.72
