Heirloom Audio Productions ~Cat of Bubastes

Over the years, one of our favorite companies to review is hands down Heirloom Audio Productions.  They always deliver such a professional product, and the kids and I love the suspense in the stories!  A few weeks ago, we got to listen to the latest production, The Cat of Bubastes, and it was just as good as the others we’ve reviewed.

Study Guide

henty-study-guideWhile the CDs are great and educational by themselves, Heirloom Audio Productions makes the experience even richer by producing study guides to go with each CD.  For The Cat of Bubastes, they’ve produced a 48 page study guide that includes several sections that enrich the learning experience including:

Listening Well  This section asks comprehension questions.

Thinking Further  This part also has some map work as well as deeper questions.

Defining Words  Vocabulary words used in the story that students may not know

Expand Your Learning  These fun sections include more details about the Egyptian culture and lifestyle, such as why slavery was important, the language people spoke, the Egyptian dung beetles, ancient Egyptian heirarchy, and many more.

At the end of the study guide, there is a list of resources to learn more about Egypt.

There is also a three page Bible study section, and a section of Egyptian history.

Additional Extras Included

As part of the Crew, we not only received the CD, but also the study guide, and the following:

  • Cat of Bubastes MP3 Set
  • Cat of Bubastes E-book
  • Official MP3 Soundtrack
  • Printable Cast Poster
  • Inspirational Verse Poster
  • Live the Adventure Letter
  • Behind the Scenes Video

About The Cat of Bubastes

The Cat of Bubastes tells the story of Amuba, a young prince whose father, the king, is slain by the Egyptians.  The very next day, Amuba is taken as a slave by the Egyptians.  Amuba, along with his protector, Jethro, are taken as slaves by a high priest.  Together, they are slaves to the high priest’s children, Chebron and Mysa.

Throughout the story, they have many adventures, including meeting Moses, but the biggest adventure stems from the cat that his family has that becomes a replacement for the now deceased Cat of Bubastes.  Only Chebron and Mysa’s cat can never take on that role because tragedy strikes.  And when tragedy strikes for the cat, tragedy also strikes for Chebron, who goes on the run with Amuba, Jethro, and Mysa to save his life.

How We Used The Cat of Bubastes

The kids and I listened to The Cat of Bubastes while driving around town, going to co-op, sports practice, or American Heritage Girls meetings.  Every time we got in the car, the kids were eager to begin listening again.

I’ll be honest, at first, The Cat of Bubastes is not as suspenseful as some of the other Heirloom Audio Productions we’ve reviewed.  However, midway through the story, the action really picked up, and my kids were on the edge of their seats again as they had been with other Heirloom Audio Productions.  By the time the story was over, they declared The Cat of Bubastes one of their favorites.

We did not use the study guide this time because Bookworm is a little overwhelmed with his studies, but I did save it to my computer and plan to use it in a few years when the girls are older.

What We Liked about The Cat of Bubastes

Bookworm and I enjoyed the historical aspect of the story.  All of us enjoyed the suspense and the quality production, as we typically do.

  1. We homeschool our children. Is it possible for us to receive a free copy of the soundtrack for Cat of Bubastes? We are using Notgrass curriculum: Exploring World History. This is one of required readings, but I’m unable to find the actual book. I got a free download of an audio version, but it’s quite dull. Our son would get so much more out of the dramatic version. Thankyou.
