Our deep freezer was almost full at the end of July. In August, we’ve really tried to minimize our shopping and use up what we have so we can save money for our beef share. I’m still not sure we’ll be able to swing the $600 to $700 for the share, but I’m doing my best.
We’re out of common ingredients like ground beef now, but we’ve got plenty of ground pork, miscellaneous frozen veggies, and organ meat.
Buckle up, this is going to be interesting!
This week we’re planning on using liver in our burgers. The burgers also have bacon, so hopefully the kids won’t notice anything out of the ordinary. (Last week we had meatloaf with liver, and they gobbled it all up, none the wiser. :))
I also have the pleasure of hosting the Gluten Free Menu Swap this week, where the theme is gluten free snacks. Our favorite gluten free snacks are fruits and Pumpkin Spice Muffins and Banana Muffins.

Monday–Alphabet Soup (using rice instead of the pasta), Cheese Quesadilla (with brown rice tortillas & Daiya cheese)
Tuesday–Pumpkin Pork Stew (using ground pork instead of pork tenderloin)
Wednesday–Copycat Olive Garden Pasta Fagioli Soup Crockpot Recipe (using ground pork instead of ground beef)
Thursday–Polish Sausage & Veggie Soup (my own creation; I’ll share the recipe soon!)
GF Menu Swap Participants
Heather at Celiac Family has a great list of gluten free snacks. I think my kids would love to try the Gluten Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins! She’s also enjoying roasted chicken, hamburgers, and chicken nachos with avocado salsa. Sounds so good!
Amanda at Gluten Free Detroit Metro makes most of her snacks at home and keeps the budget in check by not buying gluten-free goodies. Her hard-boiled egg people look like fun! She’s also serving Crockpot White Chicken Chili, Wrap Burgers and Sweet Potato Fries, and Cilantro Shrimp and Lime Rice.
