William Edwards and the Wizardly Glasses: A Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

by Melissa on October 16, 2012

UPDATE:  The winner is Debra debdaimum27@.  Congratulations!

When I was contacted to review the new book, William Edwards and the Wizardly Glasses, I was initially interested in doing so because the character is just a bit older than my son and has a few food allergies.

My son and I sat down together to read the 194 page book, and imagine my surprise when I found it just as fun to read as my son did.  We looked forward to reading it every night.

This book is in the spirit of Harry Potter.  The lead character, William, is unappreciated by his self-involved, inattentive parents.  When he puts on a pair of glasses, he suddenly finds himself attending a private, magical school and has friends and classmates with outrageous and clever names.  Unlike Harry Potter, this book is not quite so intense, and my son could read and understand it easily.

As a parent, I loved the story line, but I also appreciated all of the subtle math and science lessons included in the book.  Not only is the book entertaining, but it is educational, too, without being obvious about its purpose.  While William’s food allergies to mustard and wheat are included in the book, they stay mostly in the background as William embarks on exciting adventures.

Another bonus is that this book is part of a series.  All of the books are available in paperback and on Kindle and are free to Amazon prime members.

If your kids love the books as my son did, there is an active website, The William Edwards Book Series.  There, you will find contests, giveaways, information about allergies as well as fun math videos.

The Giveaway

The authors, Jonathon Berg and S.Z. Berg, have kindly offered to give one Mom’s Plans’ reader an electronic copy of the prequel to the series, Winkleberry:  Waiting for William Edwards.

To enter, simple leave a comment about who you would like to win this book for and why.

One entry per person.

This giveaway ends on October 24th at 11:59 p.m. CST.  The winner will be chosen via random.org.

I received a copy of this book for review.  No other compensation was given.  All opinions are my own.
