My kids don’t get many desserts that are store bought. In addition to our dairy and soy intolerances, one of my children should also avoid food dye. Take out those three elements, and there aren’t many store-bought sweets to give to them.
However, one candy that met the grade for both flavor and food restrictions is Surf Sweets candy.
This candy sounds too good to be true. It is allergy friendly, gluten free, GMO free, corn syrup free and does not contain artificial flavors and colors. This is the candy for us, and luckily, it tastes great too.
We were given several different flavors to try, but my kids absolutely favorite was the Fruity Bears. They had a great flavor and were lightly covered in sugar. I limited my kids to just 5 a night each, but they picked these candies for their night time treat every night until they were gone.
Their next favorite was Gummy Worms. I think they liked the gross factor of eating a “worm,” and the flavor was just as good, if not better, than the gummy worms filled with artificial ingredients and colors that other candy makers sell.
Surf Sweets offers a variety of flavors and types of candies, and a portion of their sales benefits the non-profit, Climate Cycle, which funds green educational projects in K-12 schools. In addition, their candy is approved for Stage 2 of the Feingold diet, and 5 of their candies are vegan.
All of their products are made in a facility free of many of the major allergens: wheat, dairy, soy, eggs, tree nuts, nuts, fish and shellfish. If you have a child with allergies or there is a child in your child’s classroom who has allergies, these candies may be the perfect treat to share. The child with allergies can enjoy them, and all of the other kids will enjoy them too. Win, win!

My kids would like to try either the gummy swirls or the gummy spiders. Although I have to say this caused quite the debate since I have six and told them they had to all decide on one. The best we could do was get it down to 2.
