Freezer Cooking Wrap Up

My freezer cooking day last Saturday went fairly smoothly despite taking a four hour break in the middle of the day.  I took this picture of the inside of my freezer; all of the items stacked on the shelf (on the left hand side) were from my freezer cooking day.

I took the picture this way because I wanted to show that it is possible to do freezer cooking even if you only have a small above the refrigerator freezer.  Just put the contents in a ziplock bag, seal out the air, and lay flat on a shelf or cookie sheet to freeze.  They really take up very little room when stacked like this.

Anyway, here is what I accomplished:

Darlene’s Make Ahead Meatballs (I made 125 of these, so that should be good for 6 different meals such as spaghetti and meatballs, sweet and sour meatballs, meatball subs, etc.)

Lighter Meatloaf  (4 loaves)

Crab Cakes x2  didn’t get to these

Sloppy Joes for a Crowd (4 meal size portions)

Best Chili  (2 meals)  Loved this recipe!! I will be sharing it soon.

White Chili w/Tomato Salsa (2 meals)

Pulled BBQ Chicken  (3 meals)

Sweet Potato Pear Soup (2 meals)

Stuffed Sweet Potatoes  (3 side dishes)

Thai Style Turkey  (2 Meals)

Bean Soup with Turkey & Veggies  (3 Meals)

Savory Split Pea & Turkey Soup  (2 Meals)

Many of these meals were new to us.  As we try them, I will share the really good ones with you on my Monday recipe post.

  1. Great, now I’m starving, lol. Let me know how that bean soup with turkey and veggies turns out!

  2. Great Job!

  3. I don’t have a big freezer, either. And that is my excuse for not to do bulk cooking… I am surprised how much things you can put in your small freezer! My freezer is occupied with big bags of frozen vegetables from Costco, but I will try to do some freezer cooking following your example. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Do you cook the meatloaf before freezing or freeze it uncooked?

    • Yes, I do cook it beforehand. Then, when I pull it out of the freezer, I just reheat it, usually in the microwave.

      • I was going to ask the same question! Good to know, I was thinking a good meatloaf with mashed potatoes sounded really good (totally the pregnancy talking LOL) so I might try to get one or two into the freezer.

  5. Good Lord! I need stock my freezer the way you do. All we have in there is some coffee and I think that’s it. :-) We are not big on freezer cooking. But it is a great idea to contemplate!
